Honeywell today announced the newest addition to its innovative Spectra Shield 6000 series for high-performing ballistic materials to meet strict requirements for protective equipment and the growing global demand for lightweight protection. Spectra Shield® 6166, which further expands Honeywell’s suite of high-performing hard armor products for militaries and law enforcement, was introduced at the SHOT Show at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas. “As the industry is consistently challenged to meet aggressive performance targets for protection set by law enforcement and militaries globally, we have evolved our products to allow helmet, plate and vest manufacturers to create lighter designs that don’t compromise safety,” said Tim Swinger, business director for armor at Honeywell Packaging & Composites.

Honeywell announced today a collaboration with Elmon for the use of its Spectra Shield® ballistic composite materials in the rapid development of lightweight protective vests for law enforcement officers of the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection in Greece. Elmon, a leading defense contractor and systems integrator based near Athens, will leverage Honeywell’s Spectra Shield technology, to produce up to 40,000 of the new vests in the next 2 years for Hellenic police officers.

Honeywell today introduced Spectra Shield® 6360, an advanced ballistic material for the creation of soft body armor that provides the highest level of protection for law enforcement. The announcement was made at Milipol 2019. The newest addition to the Spectra Shield 6000 series, Spectra Shield 6360 will enable ballistic apparel manufacturers to design improved, light weight and comfortable protective vests that meet new stringent law enforcement regulations globally. In tests, Spectra Shield 6360 demonstrated up to 7% more ballistic protection than its predecessor in the Spectra Shield 5000 series, reducing the risk of blunt force trauma with greater absorption of energy from bullets.

Honeywell announced today that it is increasing production capacity of its proprietary Spectra® fiber to meet the demands of global militaries and law enforcement for high-performing and lightweight armor that provides critical protection against a wide range of threats. Spectra fiber, an ultra-strong, yet lightweight fiber made from ultra-high molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), is incorporated into Honeywell’s Spectra Shield® technology for use in advanced armor applications.

Honeywell today announced the expansion of its high- performance hard armor suite of products with Spectra Shield® 6472, specifically designed to meet stringent military protection requirements globally. Spectra Shield 6472 is the first product in the new Spectra Shield 6000 series, which continues Honeywell’s legacy in providing the highest performing ballistic materials for protective gear.

Honeywell’s Colonial Heights facility, producer of Honeywell Spectra® fiber, was awarded Approval of Manufacturer Certification from DNV GL, the world’s largest classification society supporting marine, renewable energy, oil and gas, electrification, food and beverage and healthcare industries. The certification, which recognizes the Colonial Heights, VA facility for manufacturing synthetic fibers for designated service in ropes, will allow the site to expand high-growth areas for its rope fiber products like ship mooring, heavy lifting and deep deployment and recovery.

Outdoor pack manufacturer Mountainsmith, launched its 2019 Mayhem Series – a series of four ultra-strong ripstop packs with longer-lasting abrasion resistance technology. The series will be manufactured with Honeywell Spectra® fiber – the same fiber used in protective vests for law enforcement personnel – to provide outdoor adventurers with a durable lightweight ripstop pack. Ripstop fabrics are woven using a special reinforcing technique for greater resistance against tearing and ripping. The revised Mayhem Series incorporating Spectra fiber is Mountainsmith’s most technical pack to date, offering the ultimate combination of versatility, sustainability, comfort and weight.

Honeywell announced today its partnership with CiloGear, a rugged pack manufacturer, to develop ripstop fabric. Nearly all of CiloGear’s pack designs will now incorporate Honeywell Spectra® fiber – the same fiber used in protective vests for law enforcement – to give mountain athletes unparalleled durability and abrasion resistance. Spectra integration in this cutting-edge fabric nearly doubles the packs’ tear strength, increasing longevity while reducing overall weight. Ripstop fabrics are materials woven using a special reinforcement technique to enable resistance against tears and rips.

Honeywell announced that its Spectra Medical Grade (MG) fiber will be incorporated into the design of medical devices used in minimally invasive procedures. Spectra, an ultra-lightweight and ultra-high strength fiber, gives medical device manufacturers greater flexibility to design and build smaller, stronger and lighter devices.

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that Safariland Group is using Honeywell Spectra Shield® in a breakthrough new design that changes the way ballistic glass is installed in ballistic handheld shields. The resulting shields can be up to 20 percent lighter. Safariland is introducing the new design in its new X Series line of lightweight ballistic shields, sold under its PROTECH Tactical brand.
